Mr. Turner has successfully dealt with a wide range of state & local tax issues including audits, nexus issues, state transfer pricing & related planning initiatives. His extensive Federal government tax experience including a judicial clerkship at the United States Tax Court and the IRS National Office (Chief Counsel- International) is directly relevant to state & local tax issues given the similarity of issues between international and state taxation (nexus, allocation & apportionment, state transfer pricing initiatives, etc.). Some of Eric’s recent state & local tax successes on behalf of clients include:
- Reduced a Michigan audit tax deficiency concerning various e-commerce/publishing issues from $7.5 million to $200K;
- Formulated and implemented a defensible state transfer pricing initiative analogous to the company’s global transfer pricing approach; and
- Formed and led a 12-member pharmaceutical lobbying consortium that enacted clarifying legislation in California that detailing samples are not subject to sales/use tax.
